Review - Jurassic World

I've just watched this in IMAX, and I must say, although it's not as good as the first movie, it is a lot more enjoyable than the second and third Jurassic movie.

OK, first let's get the bad out of the way. There wasn't much character developments (other than Owen and Claire, thought they get most of the screen time, other than the dinosaurs of course), and the 2 kids are not as good/fun as the original. The dialog/lines are not as good as the original as well (I miss Ian Malcolm and Alan Grant). The biggest problem I have is with the product placement. Although not on ridiculous level, there's still a lot of product placement in the first 20 minutes of the movie. Another head scratching part is on the Aviary scene. They've been in that enclosed/neglected aviary for 20 years and they manage to multiply? Like how?? The island is too small to provide food for the various dinosaurs, so how can a neglected part of the park manage to sustain such a large population?

Luckily, all those becomes irrelevant after that the dinosaurs took center stage, and oh my they are fun. The action scenes and CGI/ are very well made, and thank god for no shaky camera angle. Chris Pratt and  Bryce Dallas Howard did well for the 2 main casts. And I like that they put some part of the original Jurassic Park into the movie.

So if you compare it to the fun and witty dialog, not to mention the wow factor of the first movie, then this will fall short of your expectation. But if you view it just as a summer blockbuster film with back to back action, then it will be a fun ride that won't disappoint you.

菜头糕 fried carrot cake - Taman Johor Jaya pasar malam

There's a huge pasar malam in Taman Johor Jaya every Tuesday, at Jalan Dedap 13. Huge cause it's at least 400m long. I counted at least 3 different asam laksa stalls, 3 fried carrot cake stalls, and 4 different economy beehon/mee stalls.

One thing about fried carrot cake in Johor is that most of them are VERY sweet. This stall is the one that I found tolerable (there's another stall that you can order without the sweet sauce, but I have not tried it).

Well, this one runs almost like a factory line, as the guy cook like 8-10 portion at one go, and the lady will start packing and serve it out to those that fits the order. If you come early, you can find packs ready to go, as the guy already started cooking before the order comes in.

Speaking of factory line, there was suppose to be a queue, but people just cut in and shout the order to the lady, then took a step back and wait for their order.
The line before everything became hectic
Took a while before I could get my order across, although the aunty then basically just gave me one of the standard ones (small portion with chili), advantage of ordering standard item.

RM4
Not too salty, not too sweet, not too spicy, and the carrot cake is smooth and silky, just the way I liked it.

Of course that alone is not enough for dinner, so I had something extra:

RM5.70, from one of the many economy noodle stalls
I was walking past the stall when I saw the noodle was freshly served from the wok. While waiting for my order (same story with the queue thing), a fresh batch of fried chicken came out, so I ordered it too. Wanted the beehon but that ran out fast.

So in conclusion, a lot of food choice in the pasar malam, though most are standard pasar malam fare, not great, not bad (not the asam laksa though, tried two out of three, both are meh).
I also need to be more aggressive in getting my order across, was kinda stress with all the queue cutting today because I was trying to beat the rain. Screw being the nice(dumb) guy.

The Big Bad Wolf Book Sale Johor - EXPO @ Danga City Mall

My first Big Bad Wolf experience in Johor. Feels smaller than the one in KL.

Pardon the poor photo. Didn't realized when I was taking it

Saw some of the same titles as the one in Melaka last year. Selection is kind of poor actually.
Found this while browsing though.

Oh the irony

In the end, didn't get much. Hopefully I can go around reading them all, and maybe I might put up some book review. Maybe...

The haul: Total RM88

First!

I know, lame title for the first post.

Why TKYC? Well, I suppose it can stand for Tok Kok & Yam Cha, but it's also because it's the initials of my name and my nick on the web. I'm lazy like that.

Why a blog after all these years? Well, after getting bugged by friends to create a place to save my random musing/review/etc, I decided, why not. This also gives me a chance to write more.

What musing/review? I have many interests. So I often post some random thoughts on whatever caught my fancy on the chat group. So this is an attempt to try to put them into a place, and hopefully organize them.
